The Power of Taking Action
Hey friends,
There’s a quote by Friedrich Engels that’s been sitting with me lately:
“An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.”
It’s one of those quotes that makes you stop and think—like, how many times have I gotten stuck in the planning phase of something, convincing myself I’ll act once I’ve figured everything out? Spoiler alert: sometimes “figuring everything out” is just another way to procrastinate.
For me, this shows up in all kinds of ways. I can spend hours researching the perfect way to do something—whether it’s launching an idea, taking care of my body, or planning my next big move. I’ll make lists, watch tutorials, and overthink every detail until I’m practically an expert in theory. But when it comes to actually doing the thing? That’s where it gets tricky.
Because action? It’s messy. It doesn’t come with guarantees. It’s full of trial and error and moments where you think, “What if I get it wrong?”
But here’s what I’ve learned: nothing happens without that first step. No amount of planning or theorizing can replace the experience of actually trying. And yeah, sometimes I mess up. Sometimes the step I take feels like a stumble. But every single time, I learn something I never could’ve figured out just by thinking about it.
This quote reminds me that the tiniest action can carry more weight than the most perfectly crafted plan. Whether it’s finally starting that project I’ve been dreaming about, showing up for myself in a way I’ve been avoiding, or even just making the call I’ve been putting off—those actions, however small, move the needle forward in ways that overthinking never will.
Take this blog, for example. Do you know how many times I’ve thought about writing more, sharing more? I could spend forever planning what to say, worrying about how it will come across. But at some point, I just have to sit down, open my heart, and write. It doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be done.
And that’s the magic of action. It doesn’t wait for perfection. It creates momentum, builds confidence, and opens doors you didn’t even know were there.
So here’s what I want to ask you: What’s one thing you’ve been thinking about doing but haven’t started yet? Maybe it’s something big, like chasing a dream, or something small, like sending a message you’ve been avoiding. Whatever it is, what’s one tiny step you can take today?
Because the truth is, you don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to start.
I’d love to hear about the actions you’re taking—big, small, messy, or bold. Let’s talk in the comments or message me. We’re all figuring it out one step at a time, and every ounce of action matters.
Thanks for being here with me today. Here’s to taking that first step, and then another, and another.
Until next time,
Marjoly 🌿
