One Step at a Time.
Hey friends,
Today quote is by Lao Tzu:
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
It’s one of those quotes that seems so simple, but when you really stop to think about it, it’s kind of… everything.
You know those moments when you’re staring at this huge goal or dream, and it feels so big that you don’t even know where to start? Yeah, that’s been me. Whether it’s figuring out how to build a life that feels free and full of adventure, taking care of my body after months of “I’ll start tomorrow,” or trying to create a stable, fulfilling income—there are times when it all feels like too much.
But here’s what this quote reminds me: it doesn’t matter if the goal feels a million miles away. What matters is taking that first step.
When I decided to move to Brazil, it felt like one of those “thousand-mile” journeys. I mean, packing up my life, figuring out my kids (pets) travel needs, creating a new plan for myself—it felt overwhelming. Honestly, there were days when I thought, “What am I even doing? This is too much!” But then I’d remind myself: Just take one step today.
One step might look like booking a ticket. Or researching what my dogs needed to travel. Or even just sitting down and writing out what I wanted this new chapter of my life to look like. None of those steps were huge on their own, but together? They started to add up.
And that’s what I’ve learned. The first step is never perfect. It’s messy, awkward, and usually terrifying. But it’s the one that matters most because it breaks the cycle of sitting still. Once you take it, the next one feels a little easier.
For me, this quote has also been a reminder to give myself grace. Some days, that “step” might look like making a phone call I’ve been avoiding or choosing to eat something nourishing instead of stress-snacking. Other days, it might be bigger—like finally launching that idea I’ve been dreaming about. But no matter how small or big the step is, it still counts.
And here’s the thing: you don’t have to have it all figured out before you start. Trust me, I rarely do. But every time I take a step, I’m one move closer to the life I want to create.
So, here’s my question for you: What’s your “thousand-mile journey”? Maybe it’s starting something new, healing from something old, or just figuring out what’s next. Whatever it is, what’s one small step you can take today?
It doesn’t have to be perfect or impressive—it just has to be yours.
Let me know in the comments or shoot me a message. I’d love to hear about your journey, the steps you’re taking, and even the ones you’re scared to take. We’re all figuring this out together, one step at a time.
Thanks for being here with me today. Your journey inspires me to keep moving on my own.
Until next time,
Marjoly 🌿
