The Value of Today

Hey friends,

There’s this quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe that I’ve been sitting with lately:

“Nothing is worth more than this day.”

Simple, right? But wow, it hits hard. It’s one of those truths that feels so obvious and yet, somehow, so easy to forget.

I’ll be honest—there are so many days when I catch myself living anywhere but here. My mind is either replaying the past, thinking about all the things I should have done differently, or racing ahead to the future, planning, worrying, dreaming. And while there’s nothing wrong with reflecting or looking ahead, sometimes it feels like I’m missing the point entirely.

This quote reminds me to stop and ask myself: What’s happening right now? What’s beautiful about this day, this moment, this breath?

And you know what I’ve realized? The most valuable things in my life aren’t somewhere out there—they’re happening right now. Like when my dogs curl up beside me, totally content just to be close. Or when I take a walk and actually notice the way the sun feels on my skin or the sound of the wind in the trees.

These are the moments that make life feel full. They don’t cost anything, they don’t depend on some future goal being achieved—they just are.

But let’s get real: appreciating today isn’t always easy. Life is busy, messy, and full of distractions. There are bills to pay, goals to reach, and let’s not even get started on the endless scrolling on social media. It’s so tempting to think, “I’ll enjoy life once things settle down, once I have more time, once everything’s perfect.”

Spoiler alert: things never really settle down.

That’s why this quote feels so important to me. It’s like a little nudge, a reminder that today doesn’t need to be perfect to be valuable. It doesn’t matter if the laundry isn’t done or if I didn’t check everything off my to-do list. What matters is being here, in this moment, and finding something—anything—to be grateful for.

So here’s what I’ve been trying to do: every day, I take a moment to pause and ask myself, What’s worth noticing right now? Sometimes it’s big, like a conversation that fills me up. Other times, it’s small, like the way my coffee tastes or the way the light comes through the window.

And let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. It doesn’t fix everything—it’s not some magical cure for stress or anxiety—but it does make life feel richer, more grounded, and more real.

So, here’s my question for you: What’s something about today that’s worth more than anything else? Maybe it’s a person, a feeling, or just the simple fact that you’re here, alive, and breathing.

I’d love to hear about it. Share it in the comments or send me a message. Let’s remind each other of the magic in the everyday, the value in the here and now.

Thanks for sharing this moment with me. Let’s keep finding the beauty in today, no matter what it looks like.

Until next time,
Marjoly 🌿
